MooHero mi ujame vse pojatve – tudi tiste, ki jih drugače ne bi opazila.

100% pregnancy rate and better herd management

On the Zajc farm in Litija, they keep around 100 head of cattle, including 40 to 45 dairy cows of black-and-white and red-and-white Holstein breeds. Barbara Zajc has been managing the farm for over a decade, working with a clear and above-average vision: breeding show animals with her own genetic base.

"It’s not an art to buy a good cow – what interests me is how to get one with my own herd,"

says Barbara, who has been inseminating cows herself for several years and mainly uses Canadian and American bulls.

When hormones are replaced by a digital solution

Before she started using the MooHero system, heat detection was often uncertain – especially at night or in cows that showed no obvious signs. As a result, they often resorted to hormone treatments to improve reproduction.

"I started using the collars when I received them as a prize at a show. I tested them in different stages of lactation – now I wouldn’t trade them for anything."

The system detects silent and nighttime heats and determines the optimal insemination time. The results are quickly visible:

"In autumn, I had 17 cows checked – all of them were confirmed pregnant."

Reliable heat detection means less need for hormone treatments – nowadays they are used only in exceptional cases, in the event of a serious reproductive disorder.

Health monitoring through data

Barbara also uses the system to monitor the health of her cows.

"The system alerted me to a drop in rumination in a cow that looked perfectly normal. I showed the graph to the vet – it was a great help for the diagnosis," she explains.

Early intervention enabled a quick recovery – without affecting milk yield. Treatment and veterinary visit costs have also decreased, as the system detects potential health issues in time, before they become serious.

Less administration, more focus on the herd

Barbara particularly highlights the MooHero system’s integration with the CPZ Govedo registers, which greatly simplifies record-keeping for her.

"What I like most is that inseminations are automatically reported – it really makes my job easier," she says.

With the introduction of digital monitoring, herd management has become easier, more transparent, and less stressful. Instead of going through Excel spreadsheets, data now comes in automatically – leaving her more time to work with the animals and focus on breeding.

Vision: show-quality genetics from the home farm

Barbara is a regular participant in cattle shows – both at home and abroad. Her grandparents already took part in shows, but today she attends not only out of tradition, but with a clear vision for the future of her herd’s genetics.

"My goal is to breed a show cow from my own genetics. Even today we achieve high scores – one cow scored 87 out of a possible 89 points."

Her long-term ambition is to create a genetic line that will be competitive at the European level. She looks up to lines such as Oka Libra – Swiss Expo champion for several consecutive years. Reproduction, health, and genetics – all in one solution.

"My only regret is that we didn’t use MooHero earlier. Nowadays we all spend too little time in the barn – and the system catches everything we might miss ourselves," she concludes.

At the Zajc farm, MooHero collars have become a key part of successful reproduction, health monitoring, and a long-term strategy for improving the herd’s breeding value.
